Wow, has it been over a month and a half since my last post? Well, despite all evidence to the contrary I have been quite busy. Probably the biggest news is that I have moved my space to a new shop! AGAIN! It seems like I am doing this backwards as I am now working out of my garage instead of renting out a space at the Lemp Brewery. The Lemp is an amazing complex and in theory is the prefect place to have a shop. The rent is pretty inexpensive, you can surround yourself with other "creative" types and did I mention how cheap the rent is? However with cheap rent comes things like leaking roofs (I am still getting the rust off of some of my tools), "interesting" tenants who decide to sign for and then deliver packages meant for you to other random tenants and a complete lack of heat. Would I ever recommend the Lemp to someone else? If you could find a space that does not have any Asbestos, leaking roof and the locals look friendly then I would give a very qualified "yes".
In addition to the big move I have several other projects going on as well. For Big Shark (the shop I work part time at) I am lending out my shop space and helping make the bike stands they need for some of their events. They are pretty simple stands made entirely out of electrical metal conduit and couplers. Right now we are making twenty five of these stands for a duatholon on the twenty first of April and another fifty for the Newtown triathlon.
As for actual frame building I had to put off working on my new 29er frame for the move but now that my shop is almost set up I should be getting to it shortly. I do have another frame repair that I just picked up. It will involve "Cold Setting" the existing dropouts from a 123mm spacing to something closer to 130mm. Spreading the stays out a whole 7mm is a little worrying as there is always a chance of the chainstay bridge separating. If done extremely carefully it should go without a problem. I also will be adding two new sets of water bottle braze-ons to the frame.
